SUBJECT: Pending June 16th Governor Executive Order

The KAFP Advocacy Committee deems it necessary to keep its membership informed on current legislative issues that can affect the ability of family doctors to provide quality and effective healthcare to all Kentuckians. As such, we want to inform you that our Executive Vice President, Gerry Stover, was invited to a meeting on May 22nd with Secretary Dickerson of the Cabinet for the Protection of the Public. The meeting was to discuss the pending June 16th Governor Executive Order which will result in the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure being aligned under the Cabinet for the Protection of the Public. This pending Executive Order will impact all boards — barbers, engineers, etc. The reason for the alignment was a recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the NC Board of Dental Examiners. The KAFP Advocacy Committee is reviewing the information provided by the Secretary and will discuss it with other interested parties to determine a course of action.
